Some real positives in our 8-5 loss to CH
Defense again solid: Infield grounders fielded cleanly at all positions [including a nice unassisted play by Kendall at first], knowing where to throw ball...
Outfielders' quick relays to infield, supportive back up...
Hitting didn't get going to the last inning, partially because of CH's defending [partially because we stunk up the joint]. After 3 innings were down only 1-0.
When we got to the 7th it was 8-1. Then our hitting started to come alive. Thanks to homers by Paul and Martin [the only bright spot in our offense, going 3 for 3] we ended with a respectable score line. Other highlights include 2nd baseman Greg throwing someone out from right field, a great hit by Jenny in her 3rd at bat and 'picking off' the boy we love to beat with a fake throw to first, then a 1-2-5 [pitcher to catcher to third base] putout, with Erica applying the final tag. Defensive play of the day honours [sorry fellow Americans for the spelling, but I've been here a long time] go to Sarah and her brilliant catch in right field. [Her demonstrative celebratory footwork was sweet, too.]
Apologies to Emma, who played well in centre field, for not getting a W for her last regular season match until she realises how much she misses us and moves back to London.
Game was quick. Plenty of light left for a drink and some stimulating conversation about misprinted wedding missives and tattoos.
Predictions for future: two wins in our last two league matches and revenge against CH next season.
