Mob go down fighting vs 2nd place Raiders
A spirited Mob display pushed promotion chasing Raiders all the way on a rare Monday evening outing.
The Mob were up against it from the start... the Raiders brought about 20 fans, the Mob didn't even have a scoresheet!
Such things might affect mere mortals, but instead the Mob raced to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first.
Not sure of the details exactly, but Sam, Steph, Martin, Sarah H, and Tom all had base-hits and scored (with Trish and Dave picking up RBIs on a groundout and sac-fly respectively).
The recent appointment of Paul D as hitting coach having an obvious immediate impact.
The Mob fielded well, keeping mistakes to a minimum and were only trailing 7-5 at the bottom of the 4th.
Jenny, Martin, and Dave all made good catches in the infield. Dave R took one in the outfield, and Sam made 4 or 5 outs from left field.
Maniacs Martin and Sarah's willingness to put their bodies in the way of the ball was clearly putting fear into the opposition.
And despite minimal hitting from the Mob the lead had only increased to 11-5, the Mob needing 6 runs to stay alive in the top of the 7th.
Dave R and Mich were unlucky not to get something going and with 2 outs things were looking bleak. But Sam and Steph singled, Martin scored Sam with a vicious shot down the 3rd base line. Sarah singled in Steph and at 11-7 the Mob started to believe again. At least until Tom killed the rally with a lazy fly-out to left-field.
Still, a much better performance from the Mob than their last meeting with the Raiders. And despite the defeat and the Gigalum bar staff, spirits were high!
